Introduction

Anyone can apply to visit the UK to see their family and carry out other permitted activities, but some nationalities require prior entry clearance (a Visit visa) before travelling even for a short period. UK visitor visas are normally valid for six months and permit multiple entries into the country. You can find out more about who needs to apply for a visit visa and what sort of activities you can do in the UK on our Visiting the UK information page.

To speak to one of our solicitors about making an application for a family visitor visa, call us today on 0300 131 6767 or complete our enquiry form and we will get straight back to you.

Who can apply for a Visit visa?

Only ‘Visa Nationals’ need to apply to visit the UK for up to 6 months at a time. A list of Visa National countries can be found here in, Appendix Visitor: Visa national list. If your country is not mentioned in this list, you can visit the UK visa-free for up to 6 months. However, you may need to carry important documents with you if you are a Non-Visa National coming to the UK to carry out certain activities, such as performing at a festival or speaking at a conference. More information can be found in our Visting the UK information page (link?).

To be able to travel to the UK on a Visit visa, you must be able to show that:

  • You intend to leave the UK at the end of your visit;
  • You do not plan to stay for more than six months;
  • You are able to support and accommodate yourself without working;
  • You are able to meet the cost of your return journey home.
