What is an eVisa?

An eVisa is an online record of your immigration status and the conditions of your permission to enter or stay in the UK. It replaces physical documents such as biometric residence permits (BRP), biometric residence cards (BRC), and passport endorsements.

Steps to Apply for an eVisa

  1. Create a UKVI Account: Visit the UKVI website and create a UKVI account. This account will allow you to access and manage your eVisa. To start creating your account you just need to click on the ‘start now’ button. You will need a valid email address and a mobile phone number associated to a smartphone to set up your account.
  2. Confirm Your Identity: Use the ‘UK Immigration ID Check’ app to confirm your identity. This app will link your eVisa to your UKVI account. The app should be available to download on your phone’s app shop, just download the application and follow the steps.   You will need your passport or BRP number and your visa application number (starting with GWF or UAN). The camera technology can be sensitive, so take care to lay your passport on a clear, flat surface when taking a picture.
  3. Access Your eVisa: Once your identity is confirmed, you will receive an email notification. You can then access your eVisa through your UKVI account using the link you just received. Your eVisa will display your type of permission, its expiry date, and the conditions of your stay in the UK.
  4. Update Personal Information: You can update your personal information, such as contact details, through your UKVI account. It is essential that you eVisa is linked to a valid passport.
  5. Prove Your Immigration Status: Use the ‘view and prove’ service to share your immigration status with employers, landlords, or other third parties. You will hear this service referred to as ‘share code’. You just need to log into the service using the login details described above and follow the steps for the system to generate the share code you can provide to your landlord and/or employer.

Partner / Spouse Visa

A partner visa allows the romantic partner of certain UK residents to relocate to the UK to be with their loved one. The initial visa is granted for two and a half years, which can then be extended by another two and a half years so that the settlement target of five years can be reached. Applicants who do not meet all of the criteria may still be eligible for a partner visa, but they will be unable to settle until 10 years have passed on the route.
