In work

Joel has worked at Latitude Law, practising UK-inbound immigration, since 2016. He qualified as a solicitor in July 2019 and was promoted to Associate in early 2023. Joel specialises in complex asylum, human rights and deportation cases since then. He is particularly adept at preparing and delivering arguments for leave outside of the UK’s Immigration Rules i.e. those relying on compassionate or other exceptional circumstances.

Joel frequently appears before the Immigration Tribunal – First-tier and Upper Tribunals – to represent clients in their appeal hearings. He also authors articles for the news section of this website.

Joel studied archaeology at Durham University before completing the Graduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course at the University of Law. He holds a Masters in Law and Business. Joel began his legal career working in corporate and personal injury law before moving to Latitude Law where he obtained a training contract and subsequently qualified. Joel moved to Latitude Law because he wanted to use his education and training to help people.

Away from work

Outside of office hours, Joel is a keen hill walker and a qualified mountain leader. He is often found up a mountain with Fern, his 3 year old Springer. He is a keen sportsman, playing hockey several times a week and he enjoys boardgames at his local boardgame café.

"Joel Reiss understands our requirements and answered all my questions. He provides detailed written advice, including with advice on how to move forward and what would be the consequences of each option. He gives comprehensive advice."
