Who Can Apply for a Global Talent Visa?
Content Correct as of February 2026
The Global Talent visa is an immigration category that is designed to attract promising and talented individuals to come and work in specific sectors in the UK. The Global Talent visa route offers more freedom to overseas workers than many other types of visa allow, but this also means it can be one of the hardest to obtain.
Most people will not meet the requirements for a Global Talent visa, given that this is a route for individuals with exceptional talent. As such, anyone who is considering applying for a Global Talent visa to live and work in the UK must understand who can apply, and what they need to do to prove their eligibility.
Am I eligible for a Global Talent visa application?
To be eligible to apply for a Global Talent visa, you must meet the relevant criteria for the sector you wish to enter. The fundamental requirement is that you are recognised as having exceptional talent or exceptional promise in your chosen field. This means that you are viewed by your peers as a leader, or that you have the potential to become a leader in your field.

Who can endorse you for a Global Talent Visa?
To prove your status as a leader or potential leader, you must receive an endorsement letter from a professional body in your industry before you make your application. There are several bodies that can provide these endorsements, including:
- Arts Council England (alongside sector partners in film and TV, fashion and architecture)
- Tech Nation
- The Royal Society - for science, mathematics and medicine
- The Royal Academy of Engineering
- The British Academy - for humanities, economics, education and law
- UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) - only for fast-track endorsement in any research field or discipline covered by the three academic endorsing bodies above
Anyone who receives an endorsement letter is then eligible to apply for the visa. While it is impossible to list every type of person who might qualify, some examples include:
- Scientists, researchers and leaders in humanities, social sciences or other academic fields
- Researchers in medicine
- Digital technology leaders
- Engineers
- People with success in the performing arts, film, television, fashion design, or architecture
- People who have received an eligible prestigious award
A useful list of eligible disciplines covered by the three academic endorsing bodies can be found here.

Global Talent Visa endorsement for the tech industry
If you intend to work in the digital technology sector, you will need to meet the exceptional talent criteria or exceptional promise criteria as specified by Tech Nation for people in your position.

Global Talent Visa endorsement for arts and culture
If you’re a leader or potential leader in the arts and culture field, you’ll need to submit an application to ‘Arts Council England’ with an artistic CV and three letters of recommendation from established experts (at least one being a UK based organisation).
You’ll also need to showcase a substantial track record in your industry, in fields such as dance, music, theatre, visual arts, etc.

Global Talent Visa endorsement for science, engineering, humanities
In the fields of science, engineering, humanities, social science or medicine, you’ll need to apply to the Royal Society, British Academy, Royal Academy of Engineering, or UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), as appropriate in your field.
Each of these relevant bodies has its own specific set of criteria, but you’ll be expected to show a strong body of work and support from recognised experts in your field.
Global Talent Visa based on prestigious prizes
If you’ve received a listed prize in the eligible prize lists, you could be exempt from the endorsement process. This allows you to apply directly for the visa bypassing the need for an endorsement, assuming you can provide evidence of your eligible reward.
What evidence do you need for a Global Talent Visa?
You may be asked to provide evidence of your achievements to secure an endorsement from a relevant body in your field. This might include:
- Any publications, awards, accolades or other recognition you have received for your work.
- You should also gather general documents, such as your CV, letters of recommendation and evidence of exceptional talent/promise.
*Note that all supporting evidence must be from the previous 5 years.
Our team of immigration experts can advise you of the specific criteria that apply in your personal circumstances.
Is the Global Talent visa route right for you?
A Global Talent visa offers a number of key benefits. It does not require applicants to have a job offer in the UK in order to apply, and Global Talent visa holders can work for an employer, be self-employed, or start a business in the UK without needing to inform the Home Office about their intentions. It also offers the possibility of settlement after 3 years, instead of the usual 5.
Visa holders can bring family members with them as dependants, including a spouse and any children under the age of 18. Family members must complete 5 years’ residence in order to qualify for settlement.
To find out for certain whether this visa route is right for you, it’s beneficial to speak to an Immigration specialist solicitor, so we can understand your goals and what you hope to achieve in the UK.
