When are you eligible to apply for settlement / indefinite leave to remain?
What are the benefits of being granted indefinite settlement?
The main benefit of being granted settlement (indefinite leave to remain) is that you are no longer required to make further applications to UKVI to extend your leave, saving you time and expense. An individual who has settled in the UK also has recourse to public funds and the National Health Service (NHS). This ‘settled status’ is only usually lost if the individual remains living outside the Uk for more than 2 years. The period is extended slightly to 5 years if granted settlement under the EUSS scheme.
